Louisiana Institute of Higher Education
#37 “History of Jackson Barracks”
2003-2004 History Lecture Series Season – April 4th, 2005
John Pugh, Jackson Barracks Historian
Attendance – 148
The lecture explored the history of Jackson Barracks, a military installation that played a crucial role in Louisiana (and national) history and continued to be a part of the national consciousness with each succeeding war. John Pugh, historian at Jackson Barracks, traced the various changes as the military compound adapted to meet the needs of increasingly modern warfare. Sherry Pugh, archivist at the Jackson Barracks library, contributed some of the folklore, especially the ghost stories.
