Lecture Description

Mary Gehman, local historian, author, and professor at Delgado Community College, delivered a lecture on an often overlooked group in the antebellum South, Free People of Color. The lecture shed light on their contributions to the vibrant and diverse culture of the area. The lecture was part of the College’s celebration of Black History Month. Gehman wrote several books on New Orleans-related topics, and the College History Department used one of her books (on this topic) in the Louisiana History course. Several of Gehman’s books were offered for sale in the lobby after the lecture. The Opening Act was John Jedlan.
