Lecture Description

St. Bernard’s high schools have played a vital role in many social and political issues over the years. Manning discussed a very different era in St. Bernard when education was not as available to the average citizen. The possibility of a high school education came later to St. Bernard than most of the rest of Louisiana, with some early residents having to travel to New Orleans. Cynthia Kooke continued the history, discussing the establishment of Maumus High School in 1931 up through the 1950s.
