The Battle of New Orleans marked a transition point in the region's history from a sleepy colonial backwater to an explosively growing and dynamic metropolis. This talk hopes to point out some of the ways our metro area has been affected by the participants in the Battle, both physically and culturally. Even 199 years later, those men who served still affect our daily lives in many ways that we are unaware of today.
Tim Strain has been a volunteer re-enactor at Chalmette Battlefield for 13 years, mostly portraying a member of one of the local militia companies, Plauche's Battalion. A resident of Chalmette, he is a Senior Risk Examiner for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and has been a semi-regular audience member of the History Lecture Series for many years.
